Ria Samartzi is a UK based director and dramaturg from Greece. Her focus is in developing new work, including new writing, devising, translation and adaptation.
She has a BA in Physical Theatre from East 15 Acting School.
Ria has trained extensively with the SITI Company and choreographer Mary Overlie in the Viewpoints technique in which she regularly facilitates workshops for directors, actors and performance makers.
She has directed new writing and work in development at the Arcola Theatre, The White Bear Theatre and Omnibus Clapham and has worked with the Omnibus Clapham Writer’s Group.
Ria is also an associate artist with Foreign Affairs Theatre Company working with them on the development of several projects, including as director of Unterstadt -Story of an Osijek Family by Ivana Šojat and Stlako Sviben in a translation by Valentina Marconi.
Other credits include: dramaturgy on Bourne by Megan Smith (VAULT Festival 2020), creative associate on DUAL دوگانه by Peyvand Sadeghian (VAULT Festival 2020) and on The Brownie Club by Jessica Lucia Andrade (Jackson’s Lane 2018).
